Prime Books is launching a new digital imprint, Masque Books, devoted to Science Fiction and Fantasy and Science Fiction and Fantasy Romance. The new imprint will launch in July 2013, with 12 titles. Acquisitions Editor Natalie Luhrs is looking for novellas from 30,000 to 50,000 words and novels of 50,000 to 120,000 words in any SF/F sub-genre — space opera, steam punk, alternative history, contemporary and dark fantasy and more. The story doesn’t have to contain romance, but all manner of romance is welcome, including multiple partners, same-sex partner and heterosexual romance, of all heat levels. Books will be published in digital format at first, and may be issued as print books at a later date. Masque pays a small advance against royalties of 50% net for digital editions. Esi Sogah, formerly an associate editor with Avon Books, has moved to Kensington Books, where she will be a senior editor. Tessa Woodward has been promoted to an editor at Avon/Morrow.

At Harlequin Books, Rachel Burkot is now assistant editor for Harlequin Romantic Suspense, and Carly
Silver is editorial assistant for Harlequin Special Edition.

Entangled Publishing has announced two new ventures to expand the company. First up, they’ve signed an agreement with Macmillan Publishing to take over distribution of Entangled’s Digital books, world wide.  Also, Entantled has launched a joint venture with St. Martin’s Press to produce print versions of some of Entangled’s digital titles under the St. Martin’s/Entangled imprint. In 2013, Entangled plans to release 43 titles a month in 11 digital-first and two print-first lines. Read more about the deals here.

In other Macmillan Publishing news, the company is launching Swoon,  a new romance imprint, in which submissions will be judged and rated by readers online. The stories with the highest reader ratings will be published in both print and digital formats. Jean Feiwel, SVP/Publisher at Swoon Reads said in a statement. “More than just an imprint, Swoon Reads will be a community, one whose members are included in every step of the publishing process, from the initial discovery of the manuscript to providing edit notes, designing covers, and marketing the finished books.”
